This next section shows 8 photos of the dungeons under Caiaphas' house.
Here is what an actual sign says about these dungeons:
UNDERGROUND CAVES (prison): When these underground caves were rediscovered in 1889, their physical characteristics, their proximity to Caiaphas palace, and their contiguity with the Sacred Pit (dungeon), all suggested the public jail where, according to a 4th-century Jerusalem tradition not recorded in the gospels Jesus would have been scourged not only by Pilate but also by Caiaphas, and where the apostles Peter and John would have been held and scourged for preaching the name of Jesus in the temple area after the resurrection (Acts 5:19-42).
1st pict: shows looking into the prison area. You can see the doorways to different jail cells.
2nd pict: as we walked through the doorways, above us, we could see holes in the stone. These holes were where prisoners were chained to the wall, as if they were hanging by the chains in the doorways.
3rd pict: this picture shows actual holes in the stone walls, with benches under them. some of the holes had benches directly under them, so the prisoners could sit with their hands chained up to the wall. Other holes in the wall, have no benches, so the prisoners would have had to either sit on the ground or stand with their hands chained to the walls.
4th pict: this is looking DOWN INTO the dungeon.
5th pict: this is looking UP OUT OF the dungeon, while we are down in the dungeon.
These windows shown here, looking in and out of the dungeon, are where Caiaphas and his men would have kept an eye on Jesus, while Jesus was kept in the dungeon.
6th pict: this is a hole in the ceiling of the dungeon. This hole would have been where Jesus was lowered down into the dungeon.
7th pict: a plaque, which shows Jesus being taken up a road, outside of Caiaphas' house.
8th pict: the actual road, which Jesus walked on.
